Sabina Sehgal, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist (PSY 22035) who has over a decade of experience as a specialist in cognitive behavioral therapy and health psychology. At the Cognitive Behavior Therapy & Mindfulness Center, she treats child and adult clients with stress, anxiety, OCD, depression, low self-esteem, body dysmorphia and chronic illness.
Dr. Sehgal has extensive experience working with individuals and families challenged by chronic and acute health conditions such as cancer, diabetes, spinal cord injury, fibromyalgia, complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), phantom limb pain, and posttraumatic stress related to medical conditions, accidents and combat. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship at Moores Cancer Center at the University of San Diego California (UCSD) where she treated young adults and families suffering with the effects of chronic illness and helped clients through end of life stages and grief. Dr. Sehgal also has experience at UCSD assisting patients with treatment resistant depression and has worked with veterans at the San Diego VA Hospital. Additionally, she benefited from extensive training in empirically supported treatments at Rady Children’s Hospital, San Diego. There, she focused on individual therapy for adolescents, teens and their families.
Using self-regulatory interventions such as meditation and guided imagery, often integrated with behavioral medicine, Dr. Sehgal works with individuals, couples and families to support their transition through their diagnoses and promotes a positive supportive setting in which clients recover. Furthermore, she helps clients overcome avoidance through collaborative exposure therapy. Dr. Sehgal is interested in the relationship between physical health and mental health and utilizes an integrative approach to treatment including cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and biofeedback to increase a sense of purpose, efficacy, control and general satisfaction in her clients’ lives.
